After losing 7 relatives to forms of dementia, I am passionate about changing perspectives on how we approach brain health and cognitive decline. 

This lifetime of dementia has revealed to me ways we can transform aging, caregiving relationships and wellness through the choices hidden in the challenges.

Katurah "Kat" Hartley, BS Pharm

Kat, in every decade of her life, has ridden the paralyzing, emotional and financial rollercoaster of stress, fear and grief while losing seven relatives to Alzheimer’s Disease or other forms of dementia. The lessons and loss of her joyous father, inspires her daily to help others. Kat, a pharmacist, has dedicated her professional career to advancing Alzheimer’s research, treatments and care. She began her career as a Commissioned Officer in the US Public Health Service at the US Food and Drug Administration, serving as a project manager for new Alzheimer’s therapies. After raising her two sons, Kat became the project manager for Cleveland Clinic Healthy Brains Initiative. Over the last 10 years, Kat has educated numerous community groups on a healthy lifestyle as a way to prevent or delay dementia.

She, along with Nancy Nelson, (a person living well with a dementia diagnosis for over 12 years) are co-founders of dangle & dot, a dementia friendly social enterprise committed to changing the negative stigma to a more transformative, empowering one by “Daring to Do Dementia Different..ly.”

Kat serves as a volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association, Dementia Friendly NV and Re-Imagining Dementia. Currently, through the seasoned lens of experience, she finds great joy, reward and honor as a family care partner for her mother and brother.
